His involvement at the national credit union system level in Canada also led to his becoming a member of the International Program Committee of CCA from 1996-2007.
As World Council Chair, Bobby set out various priorities for his term including development of national credit union systems in Eastern Europe and South East Asia. He also worked with the Irish, the Caribbean and the South American credit union systems and he worked closely with the burgeoning credit union systems in the Ukraine and Russia. In Africa, he worked with credit union systems in Uganda and Kenya, and in the southern hemisphere he worked extensively with the New Zealand credit union movement. He was the first World Council Chair to visit the credit union systems in Belarus and Iran.
In 2006, Bobby was appointed to the United Nations Advisors Group on Inclusive Financial Sectors, a group which provided advice and guidance to the UN and sought ways to make financial services more accessible for the poor and for small enterprises across the globe.
Bobby has said that the success of the Canadian credit union system has been his underlying impetus to share the Canadian credit union experience with the rest of the world. |

| Bill Turner |
 |
| Bill Turner has built a remarkable personal history of volunteerism, leadership, and promotion of co-operatives in his hometown of Cupar, across Saskatchewan, throughout Canada and to lands far beyond our borders.
As President of CCA, Bill’s enthusiasm for the work of the organization was contagious within the Canadian co-operative movement. He considered international development to be a central function of the organization -- not an add on. He used his own considerable credibility to raise the profile for the international program and for the fundraising work of the Co-operative Development Foundation. His enthusiasm played a major role in encouraging CCA's membership to embrace the international program, and the Co-operative Development Foundation, in a new way.
Bill’s values are obvious, his enthusiasm is contagious. Bill Turner is driven by a genuine desire to help people to help themselves, here in Canada and around the world.
In 2005, Bill received the Canadian Co-operative Achievement Award and in 2008, the Global Co-operator Award. |
