Ukraine Grain Storage and Marketing

The project aims to address constraints faced by small and medium grain farmers through the establishment of co-operative storage, marketing and handling of grain, to improve their market conditions and increase market activities.
The project is lead by SOCODEVI in partnership with the Canadian Co-operative Association (CCA) and the Institute for Research and Education for cooperatives and mutuals at the University of Sherbrooke ( IRECUS ).  La Coop Fédérée and other Canadian agricultural co-operatives will provide advanced expertise throughout the project.
Ukraine Grain Project
By providing technical assistance in organizing producers into agriculture service co-operatives, the project enables members to make purchases of quality inputs in groups, negotiate favorable credit conditions for production, establish a structure purchasing and sharing of tractors and machinery and have access to counseling expertise.

Also, the producers organized in co-operatives will access funding for the construction of storage facilities and processing of grain that will add value to their crops and increase profits. Training and guidance will be provided on the main issues related to starting a grain elevator: Grain classification, use and maintenance of equipment, health and safety at work, negotiation and marketing , transportation and logistics, etc.

In addition, the project will work with two Ukrainian universities to update teachings on the management and administration of agricultural service co-operatives . A training program for Ukrainian trainers will further develop knowledge of co-operative management enabling young trained professionals to contribute to the development of the national co-operative movement.
