| The Evolution of Partnership |
CCA first entered Ghana in 1987, offering loans to women through credit unions to finance small businesses, pay school fees, and cover other household expenses. Small, productive loans to women made a dramatic difference in the lives of poor families. Since then, CCA has worked with the credit union movement in Ghana rebuilding the national association and revitalizing credit unions across the country.
Today, the Ghana Co-operative Credit Unions Association (CUA) Ltd. serves over 240,000 members in 322 credit unions and has achieved 80% self sufficiency. In 2008, as part of CUA's special microfinance program to help women build their savings and financial management skills, 74 credit unions issued loans to 4,800 women for their small businesses. |
