CATRTA:Technical Assistance to Improve Sanitary and PhytoSanitary (SPS) Measures for Colombian Exporters to Canada: Completed

Check out CCA's Final Evaluation Report for results on this and other completed projects.
CCA has been working with rural farmers and agriculture co-operatives in Colombia with its partner GESTANDO since 2010. Building on previous successes CATRTA is a pilot project that aims to reduce rural poverty by building the capacity of farmers in the Boyacà and Meta regions in Colombia. Through the project, members of the seven participating co-operatives will undergo training to work towards meeting the Sanitary and PhytoSanitary (SPS) requirements for international exporting of their cocoa, guava, soursop and blackberry crops.

The project uses a team of technical professionals and Canadian SPS experts, who are providing technical training and assistance in a series of workshops and on-site training packages. Meeting the SPS standards will open up markets and increase profits by allowing farmers to access export opportunities through the Canadian-Colombian Free trade Agreement (FTA).
