Claude Gauthier is the Ontario Region Manager for GROWMARK, Inc. In his role Claude, oversees the relationship between GROWMARK, Inc. and its 18 members in Ontario, ensuring co-operatives have access to capital, marketing assistance, IT support and services and management guidelines. Claude also works on strategic planning, director development and other member focused services.
In 2004, Claude joined the Canadian Co-operative Association board of directors and has been president since June 2009. Additionally, Claude is a trustee for CDF (Co-operative Development Foundation) a charitable organization which is raising funds to assist in international and national cooperative development projects. He served 10 years as a director on the UPI board and also served as director on the FS PARTNERS and NORFOLK FS boards. He is also an alumnus of the University of Missouri's Graduate Institute for Cooperative Leadership.
Prior to joining the GROWMARK System in 1994, Claude was president of the United Co-operatives of Ontario (1991 to 1994) and had served on UCO's board since 1985. In addition in 1994, Claude was general manager of Temiskaming Grain Marketing Co-operative Inc., a co-operative he helped found in 1990. He was a dairy farmer in Earlton, Ont. from 1980 to 1994.
Claude may have received his first exposure to co-operative leadership as a participant of the Co-operative Young Leaders program. The program is now coordinated by the Ontario Co-operative Association.
Claude is a graduate of the University of Ottawa, and holds a degree in business administration. Claude and his wife Suzanne have six children and two grandchildren and live in Mississauga, ON.
