Coaching & Governance Programs

Volunteers from Canadian credit unions are sharing their talents and expertise to help put an end to poverty in the developing world through the Canadian Co-operative Association's Credit Union Coaching Program. Teams of volunteers have undertaken missions to help credit unions in Malawi, Uganda, Kenya, Ghana and Mongolia provide valued services and benefits to those in need in their communities.

This summer, ten credit union professionals from across Canada left for Mongolia as participants in the Canadian Co-operative Association's 2011 credit union coaching mission to that country. Read about their adventures in co-operation at The View from Here.

Charlie Collura is the CEO of the Hamilton Municiple Employees Credit Union and was involved in a recent Uganda/Malawi coaching mission. He travelled to Uganda with his partner, Tammy Chrisopher, Chief Finanical Officer of OMISTA Credit Union in Moncton. They worked with four different credit unions over the course of the two week program, learning about the creit union system and communities they stayed in. They spent a couple of days in each credit union discussing issues that staff and managers would like to see resolved and making recommendations to the credit union's board of directors.
