Young co-operators have been key stakeholders in co-operatives for many generations, and there has been a history of youth involvement which has changed and evolved over time. As the CCA and co-operators across Canada celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2009, CCA made a commitment to develop a Youth Action Strategy as one of the major initiatives shaping the centenary celebrations. The commitment to develop a Youth Action Strategy looks to the future, increasing the awareness and participation among young Canadians in co-operatives.
Some of the next steps that CCA will be undertaking to develop a National Youth Action Strategy are:
- Developing a National Youth Caucus. This group will be comprised of young Canadians, co-operative and credit union organizations for across the country, Youth Program Managers from some of the provincial associations and co-operative academics.
- Connecting through technology... we will want to hear from young people, connect with young people and utilize technology to our advantage-across time and geography.
- Build on the recommendations and feedback that was provided at the 2008 CCA Youth Forum and Joint Youth Congress with le Conseil canadien de la coopération et de la mutualité
