| Canadian Co-operative Hall of Fame: Pioneer Inductees |

In June 2009, CCA launched the Canadian Co-operative Hall of Fame in celebration of its 100th anniversary. The purpose of this virtual Hall of Fame is to recognize the legacies and achievements of outstanding Canadian co-operators, past and present.
At the beginning of the anniversary year, Canadian co-operators were asked to put forward names of co-operative pioneers who made significant and lasting contributions to the development of Canadian co-operatives and credit unions. Fourteen outstanding individuals were nominated. From these 14 individuals, CCA went back to the co-operative community, seeking their on-line vote for the one person who would be given the additional recognition of Canada's Greatest Canadian Co-operator. More than 5,000 people voted, and Alphonse Desjardins was named the Greatest Canadian Co-operator. All 14 were inducted into the Canadian Co-operative Hall of Fame, as were all past and present recipients of CCA's Canadian Co-operative Achievement Award and Global Co-operator Award.
Given the amount of interest generated by the induction of the co-op pioneers, CCA is continuing the efforts begun in 2009 by creating an annual award category entitled "Pioneer Inductees". Each year, up to five Pioneer Inductees -- deceased individuals who were fundamental in shaping co-operation in Canada -- will be inducted into the Hall of Fame, based on nominations from individuals and organizations, followed by a selection process. Up to five "Pioneer Inductees" will be selected each year and inducted into the Hall of Fame at CCA's National Congress.
